Child Development & Parenting
Ngando guardians were on February 13th, 2010 informed about children developmental stages, their role in understanding and supporting their children in parenting. Jacqueline Ngige, the Sponsorship Site Manager emphasized on the importance of communicating with children to influence them positively. “Children are like a blank book, so if you parents do not respond in teaching them, then you are allowing everyone and anyone to teach and write on them,” she said. Mrs Ngige described the characteristics, the needs and the role of parents in raising 1-3 year olds, 4-8 year olds, 9-11year olds and 12-14 year olds. Parents were called upon to befriend their children and use the opportunity to influence, equip, and understand them while having checks and balances. Single female parents were also encouraged to look for male mentors to help their children have a father figure authority in their lives. Mrs Ngige also noted the need for guardians to accept growth in children especially while handling teenagers. “We can’t prevent children from growing up and it is our responsibility as parents to understand and help them,” she concluded. Thereafter, each family received a bag of food for the month.
