Sponsorship Tuition Parent’s Meeting
This year’s Sponsorship Tuition parents’ meeting occurred on February 12th, 2010 at the CCP’s Community Center, Kawangware. Teachers informed parents of the academic and social welfare of their children. Twenty one parents attended the function. Jim Behr, the CCP’s CEO and Chairman of the Board, called upon parents to unite with teachers and be involved in analyzing their children’s academic performance. He reassured them of the organization’s commitment in offering quality and best services to the children. Jim also responded to questions from parents. Thomas Mutisya and Evelyne Kemunto, the Sponsorship Tuition Teachers, gave a school report which included class attendance, punctuality, discipline and academic work. They also emphasized on the need of maintaining a high level of discipline and appealed for parents’ support. Gloria Muliro, the Educational Ministry Lead stressed the need for parents in ensuring that children attend the Sponsorship program besides following them up to know how they are performing at school. The Sponsorship Tuition program helps sponsored children improve in their academic performance. The children are tutored in English, Mathematics, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies and Christian Religious Education (CRE) subjects as per the Kenya Education Curriculum. The classes are held from Monday to Friday at two venues: Community Center and Free Pentecostal Church, Kawangware. There are two sessions; from 2:00pm – 4:00pm for ages 4 – 9 year olds (Preschool – Level 3) and from 4:00pm – 6:30pm for the 10 – 12 year olds (Level 4 – Level 6). Children are allocated a venue according to the distance from their school and home.
